Top 10 Doomsday Theories of 2013

Our friend Chris over at SimplyHike.co.uk recently conducted an extensive poll which asked the question: What do you think is the most probable cause to end life, as we know it?  Chris compiled the data and put together this outstanding infographic.  Personally I believe an economic/financial collapse is entirely possible and would cause much consternation, but our greatest SHTF threat (read: stone age in 1 day) would be Cyberattacks.

Great infographic. I think #5, 6 and 7 need to be higher on the list, yet the polled-peoples have spoken! About to click over to read your Cyberattack article.

In addition to the Cyberattack you write about, which is a very real possibility, I’m concerned about Iran launching a nuke at Israel. This will force Israel to respond with a counter-attack and hence, oil prices sky rocket and the entire region will be chaos. I’m not confident that our president will support our friends in Israel, so it will cause a huge confrontation here with Congress.
In the mean time, the folks here won’t be able to afford gas prices which will triple and our economy will suffer the greatest hit since the Great Depression and could encounter near collapse.
I don’t lose sleep over #8, 9, and 10 but the above scenario could cause #1,4, or 7.
    What do you think PJ?

I agree that Nuclear threats have resurfaced in full force. We have Iran claiming they are close to achieving their goals, and we have North Korea posturing like never before threatening to strike our country. Any strikes and/or counter strikes could plunge the world into chaos and life as we know it completely changing in an instant. I am a firm believer that our homeland would be safe from attacks but as you mentioned Iran / Israel could present a serious problem. If I could make an educated guess about Israel, I would say that they will not sit around and wait for something to happen. They would definitely take the initiative.

I think a key to remember is that almost any cyber/nuclear/war type scenario will immediately trigger an economic collapse also.

Most definitely, it’s truly a worst case scenario.
