But….. But….. But….. Echo5……. Its all in the name of ‘Home Land Security’ right?

I mean, we don’t want another 9-11. OK so 3,000 folks didn’t make it home that day. Hell, we kill 40,000 lets review FOURTY THOUSAND on the highways every year. And have been since the 50’s . Lets ban all cars. My oldest son was part of that stat. RIP ROBERT…..

We live in the “Land of the Free” No papers needed like in the old country. Right?

Here’s a test. I live in Portland Orygun (its pronounced Orygun not OryGONE you easterners) I defy anyone to walk from my Portland to Portland, Maine without showing your papers.

I have a couple of ways to recharge batteries one is we use solar chargers for our electric fences and there is the wood gas generator system.

We have a year around stream that runs through the property. This is a salmon spawning area so I can’t have anything in the creek between Sept. 15th and June 15th which is the time of year that I need it the most.We have a lot of cloudy rainy days here in Southern Oregon that time of year I’m thinking that after the Reset/SHTF the Sept.-June restriction won’t be much of a problem.{ Water wheel}.
I have a pretty good machine shop and need more power then most households.

Another benefit of these projects is that it get me out of the house, My wife has this annoying habit of finding things for me to do. Now that I’m retired she thinks that I’m her tot and fetch boy.

That’s all really good stuff.

As far as the liquid nails, have you looked into any sap type glues that could be harvested and used. My first thought was elmers glue, as it’s easy to make, but it’s not a strong bond and water soluble.

I’m going to be looking more into batteries.

RE Lead Acid battery dis-assembly and rebuilding.

The plates are not pure lead, they are lead metal lattice, coated with Lead Oxide. This Lead Oxide is relatively soft and, in older batteries, may not be a continuous surface, it gets holes in it when the battery is deeply discharged. If you break open the battery case, you will easily break off pieces of this Lead Oxide. Trying to re-apply Lead Oxide as a paste to the Lead metal lattice is going to be a serious problem and a very high risk of contaminating yourself and the area where you work.

Aside from the fact the Lead is a bad thing to get in your body, it is also very easy to contaminate the area, tools and clothing during the process of dismantling/reassembling the battery. Please DO read up on proper handling of Lead metal and Lead based chemicals.

The Sulfuric acid is obviously a danger, but also because the liquid will contain dissolved Lead and should not be disposed of where it may re-enter the food cycle or be blown around by the wind nor should it be kept in a place where someone might later become contaminated.

Not to sound like a “nervous nelly” but Lead poisoning is not something to be discounted. Please do a web search on the effects…
