Winterizing your Bugout / Get Home Gear

winter

It’s starting to get cold in the morning and before too long it will be pretty darn frosty outside.  For me this is the signal that I need to winterize my gear as I typically keep a seasonal load (warm and cold weather).  This usually only takes an afternoon and requires adding some of the following items to my gear:

  • More lightweight / layered wool type clothing
  • Thin sweat wicking underclothing
  • Wool caps
  • Thicker winter gloves
  • Balaclavas
  • Hand warmers

In addition I usually beef up the supplies in the trunk, adding a wool blanket and some additional food/water supplies.  There have been too many instances of people becoming stuck in snow storms or even in gridlocked traffic without supplies, I don’t plan on being that person.  Just a quick reminder so that you’ll remember to adjust your gear accordingly.
