Vid: Lifestraw in Action

Got your Lifestraw yet?  I have quite a few of these beauties and at around $20 each over at Campingsurvival.com they really are a bargain.  I have purchased a Lifestraw for all of our BOBs, and separately in one of my chest rig’s grenade pouches.  The thought is that if for some reason I have to drop my back and run, I’ll still have the ability to drink water (that and the fact that I probably won’t be able to source any live grenades anytime soon).  I can’t take credit for that load plan as the Maj tuned me in after a few email exchanges.

In any event, check out this video and don’t overlook the power of the Lifestraw!  Having potable water to drink is easily tops of any list in just about any survival situation.

I have them in all or bags as well. These are a huge weight saver. I live in an area where rivers and creeks are everywhere, so I could follow my water source rather than carry all of it. I couldn’t carry enough for the family, if that was ever needed. These are a must have!

I love mine, all though, I tend to defer to the Lifestraw Bottle for the most use. However, I use it as PJ pointed out in my layering plan for the BoB. Basically, this item is a last line of defense on water acquisition for me. It is nice to have everything in the “kitchen sink” BoB but there is a real possibility that you can or will become separated from it (river crossing gone bad, having to leave an AO in a hurry, etc).

LifeStraw is neat, but the number of gallons a mini-Sawyer can filter is far superior. LifeStraw = about 264 gallons, Sawyer = about 100,000 gallons. Same weight, cost, shape and filtration level, too.
