Prep Updates 03/19/13

A couple good guest articles going up this week, I appreciate all who have contributed.  In other news I haven’t decided if I want to pull more cash out of the bank, either to store away as practically worthless fiat currency or put into hard assets which will almost surely retain their value.  I suspect I’ll have a bit more time to ponder my decision, but then again the people of Cyprus probably thought the same thing.

Prepper Deals out on the Internet:

Over on Slickdeals.net I found a 6 pack of Duracell AAA rechargeable batteries for $9, including free shipping.

Current events and opinion:

Why the Cyprus Bail In Is a Bigger Deal Than You Think
PJ:  I’ve been writing about the domino effect for a while now, just as many others have.  I guarantee that while you and your buddies might be saying that this doesn’t matter in the big scheme of things, in the back of your mind you are wondering if you should take a few grand out of your account and stuff it into your safe.  Now imagine if this “haircut” happens in a few more European countries, the spark that sets the world ablaze.  It truly doesn’t take much.

Europe’s leaders run out of credit in Cyprus
PJ:  Yet another good article, pay attention to Europe as our fate is most definitely tied to that continent.

Gun rights billboard in Dayton raising eyebrows
PJ:  Registration, confiscation…you know the rest.  All for your safety of course.  The only safety I need is the one that can be operated with my thumb.

Cooke won’t enforce new state gun laws
PJ:  I’m guessing many states which choose to enact tougher laws would see this happen.  Law enforcement which simply chooses to not enforce or overlook said laws.  Maybe those who propose and vote for these laws should be charged with enforcing them.

Privacy was good while it lasted
PJ:  Surprise surprise: Earlier this month, researchers at Carnegie-Mellon University detailed how Facebook systematically erodes users’ privacy wishes…Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has famously said that privacy is no longer a social norm. He’s worked mightily to make those words self-fulfilling, and in tandem with other technologies (smartphones) and social media (notably YouTube), Zuckerberg has succeeded.

PJ, being fairly new to prepping, can you guide me to further information on the advisability of keeping cash on hand? I basically live paycheck to paycheck, but wonder what the use of keeping cash on hand would be in the long run. I realize it would be helpful initially in SHTF, but wonder about long run and things like my 401K. Appreciated the guidance!
