Prep Updates 02/27/13

If you watch the news the Sequester and the automatic cuts dominate the headlines.  My prediction?  No deal will be reached.  Both sides will be content to fold their arms and point the finger at the other side, while all of us shake our heads at all of them.  Quite possibly we could see the deadline passed and then some sort of retroactive deal struck next week which would nullify any additional cuts and slide the deadline further to the right.  It’s anyone’s best guess really…

Bernanke: QE benefits clear, risks manageable
PJ:  What is clear is that QE will continue because it cannot be stopped, if the printing stops the entire house of cards comes crashing down.  There simply is no other alternative, none!

Trust Me, This Time Is Different
PJ:  A great follow up to Bernanke’s comments, while examining what took place in France in the late 1700′s.  From the article:  During the time of Louis XV, no one could imagine how French society could possibly function if they cut the welfare system or defense budget. So they kept spending… kept going into debt… and kept debasing the currency. We know what happened next. The US already must borrow money just to pay interest on the money they’ve already borrowed. The political elite is dangerously out of touch. This time is not different. Assuming otherwise is really dangerous.

Budget cuts would hit Congress but not its members
PJ:  Of course not!  Meanwhile, up to 800k employees of the Federal government will have to take 22 days of unpaid leave before October 1st.  Beyond that think of the other impacts on services for the rest of the nation when these furloughs take place.  In the meantime our leaders in the Capitol are still living the good life, far removed from reality.

PJ:  Another good reason to have a secondary (back up) heat source which can be employed in case of emergency.  This of course, for those who do not have a wood burning stove or fireplace at their disposal.  I recently wrote a review on the Mr Heater Portable Buddy system, an indoor safe option which runs on propane.

Feinstein on gun control: Americans must decide if “personal pleasure is more important than general welfare”
PJ:  A ridiculous video.  Here’s the reality of the situation: My RIGHT to own a firearm SUPERSEDES the “greater good.”  That might sound callous, but it is not in any way meant to be so.  It’s a statement of fact and one that I  believe the founding fathers supported.  Here’s a great reality check video that was done recently which Sen Feinstein should watch, pay close attention to the end of the vid when Ben addresses this same issue.
