I have a reader who submitted a question about preparing to take a cruise, what type of emergency items (survival gear) to bring “just in case.” My first instinct would be to avoid the floating apartment complex which offers no escape route like the plague, especially in light of the events which are unfolding on a Carnival Cruise ship which is currently being towed back to port. However I must accept that some people love to go on cruises and will continue to do so, and thus I will attempt to offer up my advice. The problem is I have never been on a cruise and so I haven’t the first clue where to start. Granted I could look at the prohibited items list and then wager a guess that some survival food bars, water (and water filter set) might be advisable, maybe a few other essential items which would be allowed through security (some ships allow knife blades under 4 inches). If anyone has insight on this please feel free to email me or comment below. Thanks much!

Prepper Deals out on the Internet:
Deal of the day over at REI, save 51% on the Marmot Ultima Jacket, down to $89. I think the dark cedar color would go well with some tactical pants.
Current events and opinion:
Wheat prices may rise due to supply, U.S. drought
PJ: What does this mean for you and me? I would imagine higher prices at the checkout lane, as if they weren’t high enough already.
Lew warns of dangers from automatic spending cuts
PJ: It’s the same old song and dance, the one we have been hearing for the past two years which always justifies kicking the can down the road. I have predicted that lawmakers will find a way to slide this deadline to the right (yet again), maybe the beginning of the Fiscal Year (1 OCT 2013) while creatively working in ways to make “cuts” which really amounts to no more than a shell game. The average misinformed person on main street cares not about this, as long as they get to buy their fancy coffee in the morning and BBQ on the weekends all is good. What they don’t realize is that this spending cuts debacle is valuable insight into the struggle to maintain our false prosperity. Just how long it can go in is anyone’s best guess.
The Real Reason the Economy Is Broken (and Will Stay That Way)
PJ: Great article on ZH which was submitted by Chris Martenson which disputes the claims that we have turned the corner and are heading in the right direction. Here’s the funny thing about great articles like this which use charts, statistics and common sense to prove a point. You could print this off and give it to the average person, most would choose not to read it. Others would skim over it, not understand it and wave it off as nonsense. To the ones that truly understand it, their desire to remain unplugged from reality would be so great that they would choose not to believe it (or even accept any piece of it as plausible) and immediately begin to discredit the source.
Human Remains, Dorner’s ID Located Inside Charred Cabin Where He Was Barricaded
PJ: Any firefighters want to comment on this? How many times have “charred human remains” been recovered which were so badly burned that they needed to be identified via forensics…but an in tact driver’s license made it through the flames unscathed?
Miami ‘super dad’ dies protecting daughter, 11, during home invasion
PJ: The likes of those in the MSM with an agenda will spin this as proof that owning a gun and even having one for self defense guarantees nothing, and they would be correct. What they fail to understand is that this brave father fought back and ultimately lost his life to protect his family against two armed invaders. That’s a sheepdog for you, going down swinging. Much respect.
Eurozone recession deepens as Germany falters
PJ: I remember reading articles a year ago that stated Germany was insulated from this mess. Of course we know better. The dominoes continue to fall in slow motion.
